Financial Expert Dan Celia Calls on Senate to Confirm Steven Mnuchin and David Shulkin

Senate to Vote Today on Confirmations of Treasury and Veterans Affairs Cabinet Members in Trump Administration

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The U.S. Senate is set to vote today on the confirmation of Steven Mnuchin for Secretary of the Treasury and physician David Shulkin as the Secretary of Veterans Affairs—two positions that could bring about significant change in the economy and care for veterans, says financial expert and nationally syndicated television and radio host Dan Celia.

Celia says that Washington is already full of political insiders, and the last thing America needs—especially the American economy—are more politicians who have never managed business, but rather, whose knowledge lies mainly in being a “good politician.”

“There are certainly some departments that are far more politicized and political in nature than others,” Celia said. “The treasury department should not be one of them. Trump’s pick of Steven Mnuchin is a move that could potentially have a positive impact on that department and for the American economy. Mnuchin is indeed an insider on Wall Street, but is also a financier who is far more qualified and experienced to run the treasury department than most politicians. It is also more likely that someone like Steven Mnuchin will create an agenda for a more effective and efficient treasury department—and do it without any political agenda.

“Perhaps this will be the beginning of a new ideology, one where we stop demonizing everyone on Wall Street and begin to realize that there is a wealth of experience available to us, and if we can draw upon that knowledge, it will be a step in the right direction for the economy,” Celia added. “After all, the American people did not make their voices heard on Election Day so that more political hacks could run the country. It’s time that our Senate stop politicizing Trump’s picks and confirm cabinet members that will truly do some good for struggling Americans.”

Celia has also written an editorial for Townhall.com and has talked extensively on his daily radio and television program, “Financial Issues,” about the necessary changes at the Veterans Administration to give veterans the quality care they deserve. But there is one problem with making those changes, or at least the ones that really matter, he says.

“David Shulkin had served in the Obama administration as VA Under Secretary and may struggle with the fix that is truly needed,” Celia said. “We hope that Shulkin will be up to the task to make deep and long-lasting changes at the VA. Change has yet to come, not because of a lack of public outcry or lack of desire to change the pathetic state of the VA hospital system. However, no one has yet talked about what needs to be done to make the kind of changes that will fix this system. And that won’t happen until those responsible for the problems are fired immediately.

“Hundreds who were responsible for the poor treatment of patients are still working at the VA,” Celia added, “including incompetent management. That’s the real scandal. Not until members of senior management are fired and senior middle management have the authority to fire others, will this system be repaired. Shulkin will need to fight Congress for that authority, and the question is, will he do what it takes to solve these immense problems? No other starting point will effect real changes.”

In his ministry, Financial Issues Stewardship Ministries (FISM, www.financialissues.org), Celia hones in on biblical investing and advises Christians how they can honor God by choosing companies that are not associated with immoral or anti-biblical issues, such as having stake in abortion, pornography, same-sex marriage or other matters that should be concerning to Christians. Through FISM, Celia educates investors by researching the organizations that corporations support and then encourages biblically responsible investing so that God is honored, especially as Americans plan for the new year financially.
